Dollars Making a Difference
Mississippi Mission Trip We are a generous church, blessed with the abundant benevolence of our God, our community and our congregation. Our annual ministry spending plan does not begin to illustrate the tangible difference we are making in the lives of others across the peninsula and the globe. These numbers do not represent the true meaning of our faith but we know without a doubt that with God all things are possible, and that our faithful stewardship and careful planning is one of the many ways we at LAUMC continuously strive to Touch Heaven and Change Earth.

LAUMC's Ministry Spending Plan fosters:
COMMUNITY in which to feel at home,
GROWTH to cultivate seeds of faith,
CARE to sustain our commitment to all of God's people.

LAUMC's Ministry Spending Plan fosters a COMMUNITY in which to feel at home.

Worship continues to be the central focus of our community as we gather together to be inspired and challenged to apply our faith in the world. As we near the completion of a major phase in the technological upgrade to our sanctuary, we will expand our media ministries by producing and utilizing new visual presentations in our worship experience and implementing new resources to supplement our favorite hymns. Our diverse and high-quality music ministry is one of the primary ways we praise and connect with God, and the increasing size of each of our choirs is a true reflection of the spiritual nourishment provided by our music department.

In addition to worship and music, intergenerational activities such as our annual fall Homecoming foster LAUMC's "culture of connectivity" and fellowship within our community. Our plans to update and upgrade the church website with videos, blogs and eNewsletters will allow us to reach even more people in our local and world-wide community.

(It is also worth noting that through our projected ministry income, we anticipate being able to support more organizations than ever before with our Outreach benevolences and global church missions.)

LAUMC's Ministry Spending Plan fosters GROWTH to cultivate seeds of faith.

Our Children's Ministry offers interactive programs and an engaging environment that continuously welcomes returning and new families into their faith home at LAUMC. New program ideas for 2008 include offering quarterly drama opportunities for the growing Junior High Sunday School class to share with the younger classes; communion lessons for Kindergarten through Junior High; and new Sunday School curriculum to teach children about their emerging faith. The Youth Ministry's mission of bringing youth into relationship with Jesus through discovery, risk and revelation will be actualized through new programs and new opportunities to reach out, especially in our growing Confirmation program.

Our church Library plays an important role in cultivated the seeds of our faith as well. Software and computer upgrades for the library will improve our ability to offer resources for members of the LAUMC community, helping the development of their spiritual lives and empowering their ministries.

Partners in Ministry will focus on furthering the development of a "welcoming lifestyle" for all church programs, through increased communication and publicity for newcomers. New Covenant Disciple groups, broader membership classes, and continuous Bible and Disciple Bible Studies will guide people to learn more about the church and their faith, to engage in the Scripture, and help each other as disciples on their spiritual journey. Our hope is also to "grow" disciples beyond the walls of LAUMC through a developing relationship with Trinity UMC in Mountain View.

LAUMC's Ministry Spending Plan fosters CARE to sustain our commitment to all of God's people.

We are a congregation that cares not only about the hope and healing of each other, but also for the health and sustainability of our environment. Our Pastoral Care Ministry is planning a number of new single issue workshop opportunities to facilitate the quality of care for those going though difficult times. The Stephen Ministry program continues to recruit and provide training for new laity wishing to provide quality Christian long term care to those whose lives are troubled.

Our Food Service Ministry's utilization of environmentally friendly methods and products serves as a role model for all of our church ministries as well as our lifestyles. We are committed to supporting "green" vendors by purchasing more sustainable products such as fair traded teas, coffee, chocolate, almonds and cocoa, as well as "green" disposable paper and plastic ware.

We at LAUMC realize our roles as God's people, and we know that we can make a collective difference on this earth by caring for each other and for the world that God created for us.

Every piece of our ministry spending touches the lives of others in some way. Whether it is in the form of a printed informational newsletter or bulletin; a bright, clean and welcoming environment; a warm cup of hospitality or simply the friendly face of a staff member or volunteer; at LAUMC we are called to make a difference, improving the lives of others by sharing our gifts with the church, the community and the world.
