Mission
The Spiritual Life Team at LAUMC exists to guide the adult community in their spiritual growth through their journey of faith with Jesus Christ. We do this by overseeing a diverse offering of small groups, classes (Bible studies), and events that meet the spiritual growth needs of adults wherever they may be on their faith journey. We are here to support you so we encourage you to contact us with your ideas and input for a small group you may be forming, a class you would like to see offered, or just to learn more about what possibilities there are for you as you seek a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
Staff & Team Members
Pastor Debbie, Minister of Discipleship, works closely with the Spiritual Life Team, along with Patricia Parfett, Adult Ministries Coordinator. Both Patricia and Pastor Debbie are on staff at the church and can be reached through the church office or by email. The lay members of the Spiritual Life Team are nominated and elected to service by the congregation through the annual Church Conference. If you sense that God is calling you to this kind of service, or perhaps in teaching or leading a small group or class, please be in touch with Patricia and Pastor Debbie. Click here for staff email.
Small Groups
A small group meets often (at least once a month, mostly once a week), includes prayer, spiritual reflection (scripture, inspirational reading), and a check-in for caring for members of the group. There are many small groups that come together like this in the life of our church. Sometimes they also enjoy more fellowship, like a dinner, an outing, or a sports event. For that reason, we consider these "fellowship groups" to be a part of the Community Life of our church, and the sporting-related groups or events to be a part of the Leisure Ministries at LAUMC. Our intention here is to maintain spiritual growth development as the focus of what we do as the Spiritual Life Team. Learn more about small groups here.
Joining the Church
We offer the 6-week class "Starting the Journey" every Fall (Sunday mornings) and every Spring (Sunday afternoons). The class explores what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, a United Methodist, and a member of LAUMC. Some people take this class to learn more about any of these topics even if they're already church members. All are invited to join the church at the worship service following the last class session. Contact Pastor Debbie or Patricia to learn more or to register for the next session. Or click here to learn more.

You are encouraged to contact Pastor Debbie in the office or email debbieweatherspoon@laumc.org if you would like to set up a time to meet to talk about the BIG questions related to your spiritual journey, as well as any questions related to the spiritual life here at LAUMC.
