Sunday School for children

Overview and Description of our Rotation School Year Program

LAUMC offers one class for each grade level of elementary aged children in grades 1 through 5. A class has an average attendance of 20 students.

Example of a typical rotation:

        • Each class will rotate weekly to a different workshop where students will learn a Bible story from their Grade Level Teacher, and experience a special Station lesson from the Station Teacher.

        • In cyberworld.god children hear the Bible story and use interactive software to enhance the lesson and better understand God's Word.

        • When visiting Creation Station the class will explore their interpretation of the Bible lesson through creative media, including arts, crafts, pottery, and more!

        • Good News Network offers an opportunity for each class to create their own video, either re-enacting the Bible story or producing a newscast of an event from Biblical times. This video will be shown the following week when they visit Sunday Morning Live.

        • Sunday Morning Live offers contemporary film studies and discussions to help the Bible story become relevant in our children's lives.

        • Elation Station offers moving while learning with games and creative outdoor activities to reinforce the Bible story!

        • Mary and Martha's Kitchen combines logical and visual learning as children bake and cook delicious recipes from Biblical times that help tell the stories of the Bible!

What Difference Does it Make?

Volunteers are eager to teach our children because they can share their own strengths and interests. Station Teachers volunteer for one month at a time, teaching the same story each Sunday, engaging each age level with appropriate discussions and interactive methods. Each group of children has a Grade Level Teacher who stays with them for the entire month, and then continues every other month. These teachers greet their class each Sunday and travel with them from workshop to workshop. They get to know the children well and provide the necessary element of continuity and caring in Sunday School.

Responses from the children have been extremely positive! At the end of a workshop, they run to one of the direction boards to see which workshop they are going to next week! Children get up more eagerly on Sunday to 'experience' Faith Quest!

The Results!

Children are learning and retaining the stories of our faith because they are experiencing many varied teaching styles. When they experience the story, a student's retention rate is 85-90%. Through multi-sensory experiences, the Bible stories become a part of our children's lives.

More adults are actively involved in ministry — they can find a way to serve in ministry with our children in our Faith Quest program and find it an enriching experience.
