On February 8, 2009, as a direct effect of the 2020 Vision Recommendation Foundation for Growth to ensure a solid foundation of growth for our church, the congregation elected to create a Building Committee to actualize the needs identified. The Building Committee grew into the Campus Master Plan Committee (CMPC). In the months following its formation, CMPC members embarked on their called-to mission to determine the current and 20+-years-in-the-future space needs, priorities, hopes, and Big Dreams of the church as a whole. Below, listed with most recent items first, are the accomplishments and updates from the CMPC since 2009.

CMPC Summer update and construction information
As folks embark on their summer activities, construction of the addition onto the Education Building will begin. The building addition will house LAUMC's 2nd Campus Project Center (CPC 2) for use by all congregants (CPC 1 is the remodeled Room 8, completed in April).
On May 16, the Administrative Board approved funding for the workroom from the specially designated Opportunity Fund. The next week, CMPC's Architectural Team began interviewing prospective General Contractors, reviewing proposals and conducting thorough due diligence. Upon selecting Teamwrkx Construction as the General Contractor, the project planning, design, structural engineering and Los Altos City Planning and Building permit effort began. As shown on the Project Plan timeline (click here), we anticipate receiving the City Building Permit on July 22. If the permit is issued as planned, on July 23 the construction fences will go up and the on-site construction will begin!
As shown on the campus map diagram (click here), the front parking lot across from the Sanctuary will be fenced off and securely gated for use as the construction staging area. While construction is underway, please park in the Main Parking Lot, the spaces along the creek opposite the Children's Center play yard fence, or the spaces behind the Room 6 & 7 building along Foothill Expressway. The designated handicap spaces in front of the Sanctuary will remain open for parking, as appropriately permitted. All entrances to the Sanctuary will be open, but we encourage you to access them from the interior walkways. The main entrance to the Children's Center will be closed, but a temporary entrance will be available through the door at the north end of the Children's Center lobby across from the Redwood Room. Though the construction activity may cause inconvenience, the good news is our target completion date is October 25!
As the construction of LAUMC's 2nd Campus Project Center continues, we will keep you updated on the progress. If you have any questions during this process, please don't hesitate to contact Leslie Carmichael (carm-lee@pacbell.net), Margie Gong (margiegong@sbcglobal.net) or any of the Campus Master Plan Committee members.
CMPC Feasibility Study Final Report
At a special Administrative Board meeting to be held on Sunday, May 16 at 12:45pm, the CMPC will present and request the Ad Board vote on the cost estimates and financial plan for the Phase I, part B addition to the education building Campus Work Center.
Also at the May 16 special Administrative Board meeting, CMPC will present the Final Report on the results and implications of the Pre-Capital Campaign Feasibility Study completed at the end of April. You can view the final Feasibility Study here.
CMPC Feasibility Study for Phase II
During the December 13, 2009 All Church Conference, LAUMC members approved and funded the CMPC recommendation to conduct a study designed to assess the feasibility and support of a capital campaign for Phase II of the Campus Master Plan. A Feasibility Study Task Force has been formed to shepherd this effort. The study task force members are: Pastor Mark Bollwinkel, Helen Dannelly, Margie Gong, Karl Hansen, Bert Loughmiller, Bob Shuman, Steve Tani, and Leslie Williams-Hurt.
The California-Nevada United Methodist Foundation has been engaged to conduct readiness assessment interviews in April 2010 with a sampling of the congregation members. You are invited to be a part of the congregation sample group by contacting Helen Dannelly at helen.dannelly@gmail.com or any of the Feasibility Study Task Force members. Feasibility Study FAQs

Campus Master Plan Committee Proposal — December 2009
The following Campus Master Plan Committee Proposal will be presented at the Annual Church Conference on Sunday, December 13, 7:00pm in Creekside. All members of the church are invited to attend.
This summary describes the proposal that will be presented by the LAUMC Campus Master Plan Committee (CMPC) for approval by the members of LAUMC at the All Church Charge Conference on December 13, 2009. This summary also includes information concerning the CMPC's original and amended "charter", the CMPC's work to date, and the CMPC's efforts to conduct a "reality check" with respect to its recommendations. The CMPC will present two recommendations for approval by the congregation:
Phase I Recommendation:
Create two project centers on the campus of LAUMC to meet the current and growing workspace needs of the congregation:
Phase II Recommendation:
Request funding of up to $35,000 from the LAUMC Opportunity Fund for an independent consultant to perform a feasibility study to assess the viability and potential size of a capital campaign to fund Phase II of the Master Plan. A detailed recommendation for Phase II will be presented for approval at an All Church Charge Conference no later than December 15, 2010.
