Confirmation time is here once again! Our 8th Grade Confirmation Class will be starting in January, and we want you to be part of it!
Confirmation Class is that time in your life and in the life of your church when you look closely at what it means to be a Christian in general, to be a United Methodist in particular, and to be a member of this church precisely. It is a great time to explore your faith, to grapple with some of the tough questions facing you and your generation (and facing all people of faith), to get to know yourselves and your church a bit better. You do not need to have made a decision about whether or not you want to join the church in order to be part of the Confirmation Class. In fact, we would prefer that you come with an open mind — ready to explore the issues and learn more, but waiting to make your final decision until you have taken part in the class.
Confirmation will meet on Sunday mornings at 11:15am in the Youth Room. Confirmation begins on Sunday, January 8, at 11:15 in the Senior High Youth Room. For this first meeting, we are asking parents to come too. A lot of information will be handed out and discussed, questions will be raised and answered, and we will begin to get acquainted. The cost for the Confirmation class is $40. This covers materials as well as retreat supplies, etc. If you cannot be at our first meeting, but plan to participate in the class, please call Debbie Weatherspoon or Cindy Golden at (650) 948-1083 before January 8.
We will be having a Confirmation Overnight on Friday–Saturday, January 20–21, beginning at 7:00pm and going until 8:00am Saturday morning. Permission slips are below.
Debbie Weatherspoon, Carol & Dirk Damonte, and Cindy Golden will be teaching the class this year, with other members of the ministerial staff joining us for some classes. As part of the Confirmation experience, we ask that each of you find a mentor. This should be a member or pastor of our church who is willing to spend some time sharing with you about his/her faith and church experience. The mentor will be expected to join us for one of our classes, stand up with you when you are confirmed, and spend some time each week with you outside of class talking about various issues. Try to have your mentor lined up by January 8. If you have trouble finding one, let us know.
Confirmation is going to be a great experience! We'll see you on the 8th. In the meantime, if you have questions, please do not hesitate to call us.
Sincerely,
Cindy Golden
