Fernley Flood Relief Trip
August 29 – September 1 or 2
What happened? On January 5, 2008, a 30' section of the Truckee Canal breached, flooding an area of approximately two square miles. Over 800 homes in Fernley's southeast neighborhoods filled with water anywhere from 6 inches to 8 feet deep with 3-4 feet in the majority of homes. Because the area was not in a flood hazard zone, few people had insurance for flood damage.
Who's invited: Men, women and youths 14 and older are invited. Membership in Los Altos United Methodist Church is not a requirement. All skill levels are welcome.
What will we do? The work may involve jobs such as flooring, drywall, mold remediation, windows, painting and carpentry, plumbing, electrical and hauling of materials.
How will we get there? We will carpool in private vehicles. Drivers will be reimbursed for gas.
Where will we stay? Fernley Best Western
What will it cost? Price varies depending on whether you stay for 3 or 4 nights and how many people are in the room. Price includes hotel, gas, breakfast at the hotel and insurance. Lunches and dinners are not included (estimated to cost $15-20 per day).
