"Is It Sunday Yet?" Worship Series with Pastor Debbie

One of our Sunday School children kept asking his parents throughout the week, "Is it Sunday yet?" because he couldn't wait for the whole family to go back to LAUMC for worship and Sunday School! How do we nurture that childlike excitement within our whole family, within our whole communities, and within our whole selves? Let's find out together! Be a part of our worship series: Is It Sunday Yet?
      August 22 – "Making Time" – Exodus 20: 8-11
We don't "give up" a Sunday by making time for church, Bible Study & Sunday School. Rather, we "make time" for God, for deepening our faith and for enhancing our family time. Children are not the only ones who need to make time for rest, play and God!
      August 29 – "Making Space" – Psalm 139
Do you struggle to find your place in worship or church programs? What are the special needs in our families that challenge our balance?
      September 5 – "Making Welcome" – Mark 7:24-30
As we come to the Lord's table (Holy Communion), we remember that all are welcome. We believe all persons are children of God, but do we all feel welcome? How does God's inclusive vision of justice for all call us to act in the church and in the world?

Memory Walk

It's time for MEMORY WALK, which happens on Saturday, September 11, this year. This is a month earlier than in previous years and the day before LAUMC's "Leap of Faith" homecoming celebration! We are excited that this year's walk will be at San Francisco's Mission Creek Park rather than Treasure Island. It will be a beautiful 3 mile walk (with a 1.5 mile option) just south of the Giant's AT&T Park — scenic, flat and wheelchair accessible — and we will once again provide lunch. We want you on our team!! Sign up or donate NOW by clicking the LAUMC Team Page.

Leap of Faith — "One Rockin' Revival"

Sunday, September 12Event flyer | Parking info

We are planning one rockin' revival worship experience and BBQ for the entire LAUMC community and friends! You won't want to miss this opportunity for the whole church to worship as one, to lift our voices in praise to God, and to re-commit ourselves to the power of God at work in our lives.

All parking will be at Foothill College that morning, so please plan accordingly. Click here to view parking details. Shuttles begin at 9:00am. Please come early for a light snack and time to visit the program tents highlighting the wonderful ministries of our church and a preview of all the exciting opportunities coming at LAUMC. After worship, everyone is invited to a BBQ lunch.

There will be very limited parking available at the church for handicap vehicles and for those with infants. Please use the back driveway entrance to the parking lot behind the sanctuary if this is needed.

Nursery care will be available for infants and toddlers. If you would like your child to go to Sunday School, please check them in prior to the service. They will then attend the beginning part of worship before they head to their classes.

Seating will be provided with limited spaces under canopies for those who need to be out of the sun.

Mark your calendars, invite a friend, open your hearts to be moved and challenged by the Spirit of God — and don't forget to wear your sunscreen!

Inspiring film viewing

Wednesday, September 22, 7:00pm, Creekside

"Pray the Devil Back to Hell" documents a peace movement called Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace. The Christian and Muslim women of Monrovia, Liberia organized to pray for peace and to stage nonviolent protests. Dressed in white to symbolize peace, and numbering in the thousands, the women became a political force against violence and against their government. Their movement led to the election of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in Liberia, the first African nation with a female president, who is also a United Methodist. This film is a testament to the power of community organizing, women's empowerment, non-violent peaceful protest, and the power of prayer. Join us to witness this inspiring film.

Paul Rosas with duets "How Can I Keep From Singing," "Unforgettable" and "For Good" as well as solos from each singer such as the humorous "Amor" and the poignant "No One is Alone" from "Into the Woods."   There will also be a chance to enjoy some cool jazz organ music, a gentle piano solo "The Road Home" and a beautiful new song for soprano, saxophone and piano by local composer Rick Yramategui entitled "Truth and Love" based on poetry from 14th century poet St. Ephrem.

Children's Disaster Services Volunteer Workshop

October 29-30, 5:00pm Friday through 7:30pm Saturday at LAUMC

$45 for early registration, $55 after October 8

The Children's Disaster Services Volunteer Workshop will train you to understand and respond to children who have experienced a disaster. Designed for people who have a heart and passion for children, this workshop helps them recognize and understand the fears and other emotions children experience during and following a disaster and how child-led play and various art mediums can start the healing process in children. Participants will experience a simulated shelter, sleeping on cots and eating simple meals. Once the training is completed, participants have the opportunity to become a certified Children's Disaster Services volunteer by providing two personal references and a criminal and sexual offender background check. CDS workshops are open to anyone over 18 years of age. For more information, please contact Janice Maggiora (650-388-9322) or Patricia Parfett (patriciaparfett@laumc.org).
