Serve Beyond the Bay Area

Los Altos United Methodist Church sponsors a variety of missions that take church members, friends and guests all over the world to follow in Jesus' footsteps, bringing the message of love with open arms to others.

Often in the course of a mission trip, not only are the people to whom the mission is directed moved by the love of Christ seen in the eyes of the participants, but the participants themselves are awakened to the power of faith in action.

San Carlos Apache Reservation, Arizona — February 18–25, 2012

For many years, Los Altos United Methodist Church has sent teams of volunteers down to Mexico to build homes for families in need. In 2012, we're going to take a group to the San Carlos Apache Reservation instead. This program is also sponsored by AMOR Ministries. We will camp in Globe, Arizona and work on a house under construction on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. Participating in an Amor trip is not about feeling good about yourself, "giving back," simply building a home, or meeting the practical needs of the poor. It's a step in living the life of service God calls each and every one of us to live. If you're looking to make a difference that extends beyond community service, then ministering to others through Amor is right for you. Amor Ministries will guide you on that journey by placing you in a culture that will leave you with no choice but come home changed. As you step outside your community, you will be immersed in a week of sleeping in tents, campfires, building a relationship with a family, hammering, sore arms, and the chance to interact with the community in which you will be working.
