Volunteer Opportunities – Specific Dates:

Sign up now — Teach basic computer skills in English and Spanish

Help teach basic computer skills at Sacred Heart. Teach Word and Excel and intermediate internet skills (email, research, surfing) for 2-8 hours a week for four weeks. Class is in Spanish so bi-lingual English-Spanish is a must. For information email lindsays@sacredheartcs.org.

February 25, 2012 — Habitat for Humanity "All Faiths House" in Cupertino

The permits are now complete for the Habitat for Humanity All-Faiths house in Cupertino, but we will not be ready for on-site volunteers for a while, so we will be framing the Cleo Avenue houses off-site. We will need construction volunteers for the off-site framing on February 25 from 8:00am to 4:00pm in a warehouse at 414 Martin Ave, San Jose (near the airport).  Click here for directions, map, and required waiver. Please sign up here, and limit to no more than 5 volunteers from any one congregation. Learn more about the All Faiths House here.

March 10, 2012 — La Mesa Verde Installation Day

Install raised-bed garden boxes and drip irrigation systems. Two shifts: 8am–12pm and 10am–1pm. Minimum age for this event is 16. This is a RAIN OR SHINE event. Tools (shovels, pitchforks) are a plus but not required. For information or to sign up email volunteers@sacredheartcs.org.

April 28, 2012 — Bicycle Exchange LAUMC Volunteer Day

Come and help repair donated bicycles that will then be passed along to people who need them, such as folks at the Day Workers Center, Bill Wilson Center, InnVision, Mountain View Community Services Association, and many more.  No experience is necessary!  All abilities and ages are welcome! You can make this a family activity.  Instruction and tools are provided. The hours are 10:00am–3:00pm, but you don't have to stay the whole time. Please use our Online Registration to sign up.  We will have red "LAUMC Volunteers Making a Difference" t-shirts available for $10. Bring $5 if you want to pitch in for a pizza lunch. October 27, 2012 — Rebuilding Together

LAUMC has organized teams of 20-40 people to repair the homes of low-income families in the South Bay as part of Rebuilding Together days. Rebuilding Together matches up needy families with work teams from a variety of organizations. LAUMC has typically participated in the Project Day that occurs in late October. Past projects have included a wide variety of tasks that are suitable for a group with varied skill levels, including: painting, cabinets, yard clean-up, stairs, porches, electrical, plumbing and other tasks. In just one day, the team can make a lasting difference in the life of a low-income family. Please use our Online Registration to indicate your interest and we'll get back to you with additional information. Also refer to www.rebuildingtogether-sv.org.
