Change the World Dinner – March 9

Come and learn how you can make a difference in the world! LAUMC offers many ways both locally and globally to get involved and put your faith into action! On Friday, March 9, 6:00–8:00pm, we will have our Second Annual "Change the World" Dinner where you can hear about our latest trip to the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation in Arizona and learn about what you can do to make a difference, such as volunteer with Habitat for Humanity or Hope's Corner, help alleviate hunger by walking in the Crop Walk or work toward long term solutions with the Social Justice Ministry. Dinner will be free, with a free will offering to support the Mission Trip Scholarship fund.  For reservations, please email boldmissionandservice@laumc.org or call the church office (650-948-1083) by March 2.

Other Ministry Opportunities

Men's Ministry

The United Methodist Men are looking for one or two men to coordinate monthly and/or quarterly events and assist with the yearly retreat. This group includes men of all ages and stages.

Streaming Volunteers

Live streaming is available for all our morning worship services and we could use your help. This is a very cool ministry area for tech savvy people with welcoming personalities. You would be responsible for monitoring the stream and saving the archive, but most importantly welcoming and ministering to our internet audience through the chat room. The tech side of this job is minimal and can be easily taught, but we are looking for people who enjoy being online and connecting with people all over the globe. If interested in more information please contact: cindygolden@laumc.org

Angels on Call

Be an angel! Help people in their time of need by delivering a meal, running errands, etc. once a month to someone in our congregation.

Pick a Possibility!

For more information on these opportunities and upcoming church classes and events, visit the Connection Point in the church library. Volunteer consultants are ready to assist you before or after worship services each weekend. Or call Patricia Parfett, Adult Ministry Coordinator, (650-383-9322 or patriciaparfett@laumc.org) for more information.

Radical Hospitality Committee

Imagine being a stranger to the faith, visiting LAUMC for the first time. Would the stranger find LAUMC to be a welcoming, inviting congregation supporting newcomers as they enter our community of faith? Now imagine yourself being part of LAUMC Radical Hospitality Committee ensuring that everyone feels welcomed as they enter our community of faith.

Radical Hospitality means "drastically different from the ordinary practice, outside the normal," and so it provokes practices that exceed expectations, that go the second mile, that take welcoming the stranger to the max. It means people offering the absolute utmost of themselves, their creativity, their abilities, and their energy to offer the gracious invitation and reception of Christ to others. (Excerpt from Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, Robert Schnase, Abingdon Press 2007)

If you are interested in becoming a part of Radical Hospitality Committee or would like more information about Radical Hospitality, contact Leslie Williams-Hurt (hurtlm@sbcglobal.net).
